Catching up from the last week!

Potter decorates his gingerbread house at school. I was able to go and help out the class with this project. It was so great to see them all putting as much candy as possible on every square inch of icing. Of course, Potter's was the best!!


We had quite a snowstorm last Thursday and then a bit more snow on Sunday. Potter spent a great deal of time working on his snowman. Eventually, he made an entire snowman family, but it was too dark by then to take a picture.


Molly was excited to get all dressed up for her Christmas party and sing-a-long at school. I just love that she wears all these dresses. It makes her look very grown up. But still my little girl of course.


Molly's preschool class at the sing-a-long. They did a great rendition of Rudolph, and then really got into it with Jingle Bells and they wrapped up with We Wish You a Merry Christmas. She had no problem putting on a show. She is quite the character!!

We simply cannot believe that Molly is three years old now! She acts very grown up and was totally loving her Dora party with her friends! There was a mini Dora hunt for prizes for everyone down in the basement, lots of cake and snacks, and of course presents! She has definitely moved from playing with toddler toys of neutral gender to wanting very girly toys. That said, we now live in a world of Polly Pockets, play baby diapers and all things princess. She loves to wear her dresses and tights, with pretty shoes. But don't worry, she can still take on her two brothers!!

Cookie Exchange

My friend Wendy and I hosted our third annual Cookie Exchange on Saturday December 1st. We had a great time sampling many delicious cookies this year, getting a chance to visit with each other before the holidays get totally insane, and just hanging out. We made an exception this year and allowed a boy to attend. His name is Oscar and he was just 6 days old!! It was a difficult time voting for the best cookie, but this year Jam Thumbprints (with raspberry jam) won out over some other stiff competition, mainly the Jacob's Peppermint Balls and the Peppermint Bark Cookies. There was also Peppermint Biscotti, which made the exchange this year really have a pepperminty theme. There were also very popular Gingerbread Men (made by the mother of the 6 day old!) that went quickly from the sample plate. We had our usual one game; this year it was to smell six unidentified baking spices and guess what they were. It was a nice touch that Mother Nature decided to have a small snow of an inch or so early in the morning and keep the temperature around 22. It made it feel all the more like the Christmas season, and that isn't a bad thing, even though the weather outside was a bit frightful! This is always so much fun that now I am thinking I need to host a summer exchange, but I don't have the faintest idea what we would exchange? Anyone have any ideas? It isn't too soon to start planning!!

Craziness is coming!

We will be hosting our usual Thanksgiving dinner in a few days. We have many house guests coming to stay overnight as well as, currently, 30+ people for Thanksgiving dinner. Please check back, as I will be posting many pictures and captions of the upcoming events. It promises to be a wild ride this holiday week!! Our best wishes to everyone. We have so much to be thankful for this year, our friends and family at the top of the list.

Katri visits us from Finland

I am a little late in posting these pictures. We were fortunate to get a few days with our friend Katri, who moved from Binghamton to Finland this past July. We look forward to when she and the whole family can come over, next summer perhaps.

We had a new oven and dishwasher installed today. Oh boy, are they fabulous!!! I have to show them off to everyone. What a difference. At least we know at Thanksgiving that the oven will not stop working and we'll have sushi turkey or something gross like that. And, I can rely on my new dishwasher to get all the gunky dried gravy off of each and every plate!! Yippeee!!!

Halloween!

We had a great time trick or treating on Halloween. All of the kids dressed up as their favorite character and we collected what must be about 10 tons of candy! It was a perfect night, the weather was great and we'll be eating candy until Christmas for sure!

Jackson's pumpkin farm

We took the kids to Jackson's this past weekend for a big afternoon of fun! The kids were able to look at all of the animals, go crazy in the hay climb, bounce around in the big blow up inflatable pirate ship and slide, and of course, pick out perfect pumpkins! We all had a great time and enjoyed some sunshine and fall weather, which has been sorely lacking lately in the north. Enjoy the photos!

Caleb walks again!

As promised, here is new video of Caleb walking. He now walks at least 50-75 percent of the time, only resorting to crawling to get somewhere faster. Enjoy the show!!

What good is a post without a picture?

Ok, text only postings are BORING!!! I have yet to be able to get that perfect video of Caleb walking, but let me assure you that he is doing much better than the last video I posted of him. He does have one new setback (which I will also post a picture of) and that is his first pair of shoes. He doesn't like to walk in them, defers to crawling. But I promise to have new stuff up for you to see in the next day or two. Thanks for reading!!

Quick playdate

Caleb and Eve saw each other briefly, but had a great time with Eve's new Leap Frog table. They were vying for the best spot around the table, but took time to smile and give a great picture.

Caleb is walking!!

This weekend was very productive for Caleb, he has really started walking on his own!! We all cheer him on as he teeters and totters along, and when he gets to where he wants, we all clap wildly and he grins and giggles, happy to have such an attentive audience. I was thinking how great it would be once he started walking, but now after watching him, I am not so sure! He loves to be able to get around a little more like Potter and Molly. I am sure his walking will get sturdier and easier and then will turn into running. Maybe he'll be walking the neighborhood at Halloween, trick or treating with the big kids. More video will be following, but this was the best I could get him to do last night. Every time he sees me with the camera, he stops walking and crawls as fast as he can over to me.

First fire of the season!

They could not wait, we had our inaugural fire of this winter a couple nights ago. Potter and Molly helped by shredding paper for the fire and Caleb was a good observer, not getting too close. It was a warm cozy feeling, reminding us all of how much we enjoy fall and look forward to winter. Here are the happy fire builders!

Now that Caleb is a year old, and he has many teeth, he has reached the point where he needs to brush his teeth. He did have some adult supervision at first to really get the job done, but then he wanted to tackle it on his own. He did a great job!!

Caleb turned one!!

Our baby is finally one year old!! He celebrated in grand fashion with lots of toys and cupcakes. We are in awe of how much he has learned this past year, how big he is getting, and how close to walking he gets each day. We had a small family party for him. The older kids, of course, were much more interested in opening his presents than he was. He enjoyed the attention and his first taste of chocolate frosting. Who wouldn't??!!

Big Weekend at the Clark house!!

This weekend was quite a busy weekend!! Each child had a special moment, as evidenced by the movies and pictures here. Potter has mastered riding a two wheeler and he loves to ride!! After having practiced in the back yard on the grass this summer (softer falls on grass), he was ready for the sidewalk and he spent many happy hours this weekend perfecting his starts, stops and turns. He is doing fabulous with that! Molly has also gotten the hang of pedaling with her feet rather than using her feet to push along on the sidewalk. She can go pretty fast, too, on a tricycle!! Caleb, while not walking by himself, can cook along in the basement and also out in the grass with any type of truck or big wheel. He loves that he can mimick the big kids and he laughs and giggles the whole time is going. I think that this will perhaps wear him out more and help out with sleeping better (or at least that is what I am telling myself!) Our kids are just growing up entirely too fast for me. How can I make them stay little??

Fall is here.....maybe

Just when the weather was beginning to cool off, the leaves are putting on their annual show of colors, and school pictures are imminent, we've had a couple of really warm days that have broken records of 50 years or more. Fall is definitely in the air, though, as it is getting dark by about 7 pm (bummer) and there are tons of decorations going up all around for Halloween and Thanksgiving. It is the best season of all here in NY! The Cider Mill is open, a trip to Jackson's Pumpkin farm is not too far away, and trick or treating will be here before you know it. For reasons of high security, I cannot reveal what the children are going to be for Halloween. You'll have to visit again when I post the pictures. We've already started working on the costumes...hope I can pull them off! One other item, it seems to me that someone is having an important birthday soon...check back for updates on that as well! Happy Fall!!

This was just a cute candid shot when Molly and Caleb were sharing a book on the sofa today. Molly, the older sister, had her hand and arm around Caleb and was intently discussing the book with him. I remember pictures like this of Potter with Molly. Now it is the next level of kids down the line. Who will Caleb have to tend to when he is older? (Nobody get any funny ideas!)

Molly's preschool adventures

Molly has completed her first week at preschool and what a time she's had! Dave dropped her the first day and I took her today. In both cases, she ran through the door, into her classroom without even a second glance at either of us. Great in a way, sad in a way! There were other kids crying with parents offering comfort and I have to say I am glad not to be in that category! She has painted, colored, used the potty (yea!), had snack, played on the playground, read books, and the list goes on. It is such a wonderful preschool, we feel fortunate to have found it. Molly is really anxious for it to be our turn to take snack. She keeps asking why we don't bring it and other kids do (it is on a rotating basis) and when will it be our time. So in summation, I don't think that her transition to preschool could have gone any better. I think she'd go every day if it were an option!

Today Molly went to her first day of preschool. She was very proud, wearing both her bunny backpack as well as taking her school bag. I can only hope that she gets as much out of preschool as Potter did. I'll report on her activities today, once I pick her up!

Too much information for those without kids!!

Just to let you all know.........Molly finally got her kitchen playset and watch today because she pooped on the potty. For those of you with kids, you realize the enormity of it. For those of you without kids, you should have known not to read this by the title of the post!!! I am so proud of her, we went to lunch at Friendly's to celebrate!!

Molly is growing up!

Molly had a couple of big events for her this week. First we did the conference at preschool on Monday and the get acquainted hour on Wednesday. She was totally comfortable in her classroom and I don't think realized that I was still there with Caleb. She played by herself a little bit and then with another girl. This coming Monday is the big day where we drop her off for 2 1/2 hours. I am sure it will be a much bigger deal for her parents than for her! Molly also went to her second preschool gymnastics class and.......wore her new leotard. She is so into this, it is really quite cute. Her other friend in her class had a leotard before her and so it was a must that we get one in time for this week's class. I cannot believe that she is this grown up!

Potter and Molly's adventures

Potter had an excellent day of second grade, especially since he had art on the first day of school. He has many friends from his class last year in his second grade class, as well as new friends from other classes. They have individual desks (instead of community tables) that open up for storage. He thinks that is very cool. (Like Junie B. Jones has in all the books) We are going to walk to school as much as possible, weather permitting, to keep good habits up for exercise. It has been nice and cool in the mornings, so walking is enjoyable. Molly and Caleb get a free ride in the stroller, while Potter and I push along and look at all the leaves changing color already.

Molly had her first day of her new gymnastics class and did very well. This is a preschool class where the parent does not go into the gym with them. I think Molly is probably the youngest, taking cues from the older kids who have done this before. For the most part, she followed directions and did what she was supposed to. As an hour long class, that is 15 minutes more than the Mommy and Me class was last year, so a long time for her attention span. She has a friend in the class with her, that helping her to focus too.

I guess I should include something about Caleb. Starting yesterday, he has begun to wave when you say 'bye-bye'. This is a big deal; we've been working on it for a while. What a big guy he is!

Potter's first day of second grade

Today we sent Potter off for his first day of second grade. He was feeling quite comfortable, given that it is his third year at the same elementary school and he knew that at least two of his classmates from last year were going to be in his class this year. We all walked down to school together, met his new teacher (briefly!), and then left him on his own. I cannot wait to hear how his first day back has been. I have looked at the pictures from the last two years, taken in the same spot, and it is hard to believe how much he has grown. We are so proud of him.
